IRWIN is a collective of Slovenian artists that examines the way ideology works. IRWIN have systematically appropriated iconic symbols of Western art, borrowing in particular from Futurism and Constructivism, but also from socialist realism and propaganda. As part of the larger Neue Slowenische Kunst (NSK) movement, IRWIN’s practice involves ‘over-identification’ with ideological systems — inhabiting their visual languages so completely that the mechanisms of power behind them become visible and available for critique.
